Sentio has advised the shareholder of John Brash & Co on the sale of their business to Marley Eternit for £13m. John Brash is the largest timber roofing batten provider in the UK and also manufactures cedar roof shingles, non-slip timber decking and timber scaffold boards. The business will become integrated into Marley Eternit who are the UK’s leading manufacturer of roofing systems. Marley Eternit will retain John Brash’s site at Gainsborough. The combined £200m business brings together two complementary companies, both of which are respected and influential players in the UK construction market.
Following the acquisition, Paul Reed will become managing director of the new timber products range within Marley Eternit. Former John Brash managing director Chris Watson will take on the role of chairman, following the departure of Christian Brash, who will leave the business.
Christian Brash, chairman of John Brash & Co, commented: “Whilst we are sad to see the end of 110 years of ownership by the Brash family, we believe that the business has been left in a fantastic position as the UK’s market leader in roofing battens. The acquisition by Marley should only help strengthen this through the synergies between the two businesses and the combined strengths of both brands in the market.”
The Sentio team comprised Rory Wade, Dave Irwin and John O’Gara.
